The Academy is governed by a Council comprising:
Immediate Past President of the Council shall hold office for a period of 1 year from the date he / she ceases to be the President.

The Council is chaired by the President of the Academy, with various Committees formed under it to carry out specific functions. It meets once a month and its full duties and responsibilities are set out in the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Ordinance, Regulations and Bylaws.
The 6 Officers are nominated and elected by the members of the Council. Their term of office is 2 years.

Prof. Philip Li is a Consultant Physician of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong, an Honorary Professor of Medicine and Director of Carol and Richard Yu Peritoneal Dialysis Research Centre of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently President of International Association of Chinese Nephrologists.
Prof. Li has been Visiting Professor at various universities and institutes in the world, including Harvard Medical School, Brown University and University of Virginia in USA, Nanjing University, Fudan University and Peking University in China, Nagoya University in Japan and Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
