Welcome to the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM).

Established in 1993, the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is an independent institution with statutory power to organise, monitor, assess and accredit all medical and dental specialist training and oversee the provision of continuing medical education (CME) and continuous professional development (CPD) in Hong Kong.

As of December 2024, there are 73 specialties with more than 9,500 Fellows of the Academy who are eligible for registration in the Specialist Register of the Medical Council of Hong Kong and the Dental Council of Hong Kong on the recommendation of the Academy.

With an aim to uphold high professional standards and maintain competency of medical and dental practitioners, the Academy has gone through an overall review on the current postgraduate medical and dental education being provided to specialist trainees by the 15 constituent Colleges. In 2023, we published the Position Paper on Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) to update our position on PGME, and are now working together with the Colleges to enhance competency-based medical education, continuing medical education / continuous professional development (CME / CPD), faculty development, and quality assurance. Serving as the educational arm of the Academy, the newly established Jockey Club Institute for Medical Education and Development (JCIMED) will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the Academy’s initiatives in PGME. Additionally, the Academy will continue to maintain close connections with medical schools, colleges and academies locally and internationally to ensure its influence in the medical communities.

In response to the training and learning needs arose from technology advancement in medicine, the Academy has been offering different workshops and activities of related topics to our Fellows and trainees. To facilitate training and learning, the Academy has launched the one-stop online resources platform eHKAM Portal, Leaning Management System (eHKAM LMS) and eHKAM mobile ‘App’ (For Apple | Android devices)  to allow Fellows’ access to the Academy’s learning resources, membership services as well as updates anytime and anywhere. If you have not yet applied for eHKAM ID for accessing these platforms, act now.

The Academy acknowledges the importance of well-being, and will continue to cultivate and promote the well-being of Fellows and specialist trainees through various workshops and social activities.

On this website, you will be kept informed about Academy’s updates on respective initiatives, news and many educational and social events. Information about Fellowship and CME/CPD, as well as resources for specialist trainees are also available. We hope you stay connected with us and find all the information useful.
